Alpha Females Book Week

Hey guys! Happy Monday!
This week all of the Alpha's blog posts are going to be about our favorite books.

My favorite book consistently since I've read it is Unwind by Neal Shusterman.
It's set in the not-so-distant future and is about the aftermath of a war on abortion.  The Pro-Life and Pro-Choice sides came to an agreement that while life cannot be terminated in the womb, it may be terminated by a decision by the guardians of the child between 13-18 years of life in a process called Unwinding.  Through this process, almost 100% of the original person is usable in transplants to other people and they are completely alive during the surgery.  Because of them being alive and wholly usable, some people believe that life does not technically end in this way, causing the sides of the war to come to a compromise.  The book focuses on a group of teenagers who are running away from being Unwound; Connor, Resa, and Levi.

I know, I know...some of you just read that description and are like whoa Michelle, that sounds like a pretty insanely depressing favorite book!  And I would agree with you!  It does sound depressing, but it's still my favorite book.

One of the biggest things about this book to me is that I can't really put a finger on why it's my favorite.  Every time I read it, I notice new things about the story and the characters, and for me, it's like a brand new book every time.  I've read books that are written better, and have more exciting storylines for sure, but this one is always the one I automatically go back to again and again as my favorite. It always makes me think about what I would do in a similar situation to these characters and it brings up moral issues about the meaning of life and death that maybe I don't think about all the time.

Overall, this is an amazing read and I highly recommend reading it!  It might even give you a book hangover. ;)
